Is it time for the Baptist Musical?
A couple days ago the cutting edge Baptist site, Baptist global news, had a piece on Hamilton and how some Christian schools are revising the musical for their version of the founding. Article makes a good point Musicals are part of myth making and the original told its version. A half decade ago The Mormon Musical was a big Splash. Now that the DOJ is investigating the leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention it's time Babbdists get done up.
Its a colorful subculture and Paige Patterson is every bit as big a sumbitch as Donnie Trump. The Hubris of the mother fuddrucker to team up with Paul Pressler and other leftover Birchers and White Citizens council Members networked to the Council for National Policy to ruin a struggling big tent evangelical enterprise that did its best with much longsuffering and frustration to hold on to Middle America and nudge them in the right direction was sabotaged capsized by these SOBS.
Key Moments would include the forerunner incident in Columbia SC in 56 when Stewart A Newman told Strom Thurmond and who ever would list WA Criswell didnt speak for him. Newman was not comfortable with language from the pulpit like You wouldnt call a chigger a chiggerow now would you. Some part invoking a little ditty with a Kramer or Richard Pryor would be a show stopper.
Some parodies of Franklin Grahama and Trey Gowdy would be in order. And Hillary Clinton winking at Molly Marshall on panel at Princeton in the nineties when nobody's worst nightmare could predict just how bad its gotten.
And of course James Dunn ragging CLarence Thomas in the DC Mess Hall.
Could be pandemoniously picaresque and fucking hysterical, but just watch the evening news. Be hard to top that.
