Mississippi and Bill Walton
Had interesting conversation May 31 in Ft. Payne with some counselors in for the summer; camps on Lookout Mtn. Sons of influence from Mississippi they were. One a Cormac mcCarthy scholar from a prestigious prep school in Memphis. Had about a 34 composite ACT I think he said; but hadn't read Sutree to date.
We discussed Chuck Pickering and the Allied Defense Fund; one of them knew the family.
My nephew's church youth choir tour came through Bama over the weekend. They did not perform in Collinsville. Woulda been great tribute to my Mother, but not in the cards. They did a grand job at FBC Madison, Alabama, the Cotton Patch Gospels. Lot of talent in the group. My sister is proud of her son and I am too.
Met Larry Clark at Trade Day. He played Basketball at Michigan in 72, and then went out to UCLA where he was on Bill Walton's team for a while. Fascinatin conversation there as well.
And Governor Bentley was at the Tea Party Event in Ft. Payne June 9. He mighta read my guest column in the TJ. I got word to his friend Mary Sue Bennett, longstanding member of his church in Tuscaloosa, now the ExSec to Rick Lance the head of Bama Baptists. In a related conversation likely next President of the Bama SBC John Killian said the inerrancy ideology may be dying. I am looking forward to outgoing national SBC president Bryant Wright's conversation with Giberson and Stephens of The Anointed......Big column in NY Times today about the election of Fred Luter as President of the SBC.
