Steve Martin

in Born Standing up says his favorite line from The Jerk went passed the ears of most viewers. Says there is traffic noise in the background of the scene and most missed it.
Hope I don't ruin this for you cause it is a great moment in his telling in the very moving memoir.
As he is hitchhiking in early scenes and his destination obvious car pulls over on the side of the road and driver says

St. Louis?

No, Navin Johnson.

Caught me off guard in the reading yesterday afternoon. Great, sweet moment in the story.

Jump down turn around pick a little cotton.
Jump down, turn around
Bail a little hay.

A new plan for the Fox family...

...concerning their participation on the various BaptistLife forums.

Stephen and Prentice have agreed to alternate months in their participation here. Only one of them will be "on" at a time for a given month, although the "off" Fox can toss in a single post per day. Perhaps this will keep us all from overdosing on Foxes. I thought it a good idea to mention this, since a couple of dozen of us make up somewhat of a family.

only 16 more days until may-and our long awaited vacation-

10:11 PM

here is a correction to the above comment-it is now 15 and 1/2 days until we are relieved of someones extensive copy and pasting-and also their long and rambling posts-
Whew-

Find something else to do, you........

Something else like what?Lets see if I can give my own self some suggestions:
1-Spend my days posting on various blogs and message boards
2-When i do post or make a comment -in order for it to seem intelligent-be sure to copy and paste extensively-just in case i am incapable of coming up with my own thoughts on the particular subject-
3-When i reply to someone else's post-be sure and say what i want to even if my response doesn't pertain to the original subject-
4-and most importantly-have one set of rules for myself and one for everyone else-because-after all-i'm ALWAYS RIGHT-and anyone that disagrees with me is always wrong-

A living lie

By Thomas Sowell

http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | An e-mail from a reader said that, while Hillary Clinton tells lies, Barack Obama is himself a lie. That is becoming painfully apparent with each new revelation of how drastically his carefully crafted image this election year contrasts with what he has actually been saying and doing for many years.

Senator Obama's election year image is that of a man who can bring the country together, overcoming differences of party or race, as well as solving our international problems by talking with Iran and other countries with which we are at odds, and performing other miscellaneous miracles as needed.

There is, of course, not a speck of evidence that Obama has ever transcended party differences in the United States Senate. Voting records analyzed by the National Journal show him to be the farthest left of anyone in the Senate. Nor has he sponsored any significant bipartisan legislation — nor any other significant legislation, for that matter.

Senator Obama is all talk — glib talk, exciting talk, confident talk, but still just talk.

Some of his recent talk in San Francisco has stirred up controversy because it revealed yet another blatant contradiction between Barack Obama's public image and his reality.

Speaking privately to supporters in heavily left-liberal San Francisco, Obama let down his hair and described working class people in Pennsylvania as so "bitter" that they "cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them."

Like so much that Obama has said and done over the years, this is standard stuff on the far left, where guns and religion are regarded as signs of psychological dysfunction — and where opinions different from those of the left are ascribed to emotions ("bitter" in this case), rather than to arguments that need to be answered.

Like so many others on the left, Obama rejects "stereotypes" when they are stereotypes he doesn't like but blithely throws around his own stereotypes about "a typical white person" or "bitter" gun-toting, religious and racist working class people.

In politics, the clearer a statement is, the more certain it is to be followed by a "clarification," when people react adversely to what was plainly said.

Obama and his supporters were still busy "clarifying" Jeremiah Wright's very plain statements when it suddenly became necessary to "clarify" Senator Obama's own statements in San Francisco.

People who have been cheering whistle-blowers for years have suddenly denounced the person who blew the whistle on what Obama said in private that is so contradictory to what he has been saying in public.

However inconsistent Obama's words, his behavior has been remarkably consistent over the years. He has sought out and joined with the radical, anti-Western left, whether Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers of the terrorist Weatherman underground or pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli Rashid Khalidi.

Obama is also part of a long tradition on the left of being for the working class in the abstract, or as people potentially useful for the purposes of the left, but having disdain or contempt for them as human beings.

Karl Marx said, "The working class is revolutionary or it is nothing." In other words, they mattered only in so far as they were willing to carry out the Marxist agenda.

Fabian socialist George Bernard Shaw included the working class among the "detestable" people who "have no right to live." He added: "I should despair if I did not know that they will all die presently, and that there is no need on earth why they should be replaced by people like themselves."

Similar statements on the left go back as far as Rousseau in the 18th century and come forward into our own times.

It is understandable that young people are so strongly attracted to Obama. Youth is another name for inexperience — and experience is what is most needed when dealing with skillful and charismatic demagogues.

Those of us old enough to have seen the type again and again over the years can no longer find them exciting. Instead, they are as tedious as they are dangerous.

One more thing, Precious.
Why don't you explore your interest in human behavior with a close look at the great movie the Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

"House Negro"?!?! What a terrible thing to say!

I thought your blog had some integrity to it, but it seems I was mistaken. You had a wonderful opportunity to list both articles and encourage discussion, pro and con, on both of them, but instead you went very low road and insulted the man with whom you obviously disagree, and used a racially derogatory remark to boot. I can't believe you would make such a racist, bigoted remark!
As Obama said to Hillary "Shame on you!"
I do not understand why you opened up this blog to anonymous posters if you are going to spend all your time and energy on trying to find out who they are and accusing them of being people that you feel have wronged you in the past.

If you truly want discussion, open, fair, two sided discussion then delete the offending posts and move on! Act like the grown up, educated, intelligent man that you purport to be. If you cannot do that, then you should close down the comments and use your blog as your own personal diary.

Some of us would truly like to discuss the issues confronting us, but this blog is obviously not the place.

Steve Martin was the subject of this Blog, not Obama.
I will get to Obama soon.
If you would identify yourself it would help out a lot in the integrity thing.
Sing me disgusted my you.

If you really care about the truth for this country in regards Obama and his detractors Black, brown, Purple or Lilly White, google up the several articles about him by Cornell West, Andrew Sullivan and Garry Wills.
I just yesterday read the Wills article on cover of current nybooks.com
But then again you just shuckin and you know it.
Hope to get to Obama after the debate tonight.
Today, I'm all about The Pope and Prez Bush and Bishop Willimon
I have some lifelong friends of color I will check with to see if they are appalled by my appellation of Sowell.
If they are, then I will take it down.
How many lifelong black friends do you have, Appalled?

I totally agree Anon#3-There are a good many people in this world that you can't have an intelligent conversation with-this blog is a place for it's moderator to spew forth his/her venom and for him/her to show off their extensive copy and pasting abilities-

If asfoxseesit doesn't like Anonymous replies to his/her illogical rants then he /she should disallow Anonymous posts-

When Harry Belafonte called Colin Powell a house negro he was NOT being complementary: http://blogcritics.org/archives/2002/10/10/033240.php

When U.S. Ambassador James McGee was called a house negro by the Zimbabwe Press they were NOT being complementary:

It is racist and it is in poor taste.

I have many friends of all colors and creeds, and am thankful for all of them. I have not lived in only one or two places for the whole of my life, therefore I don't have many "lifelong" friends, but have made many good friends throughout my life.

I remain Appalled

Now how in the world could you call an innocuous post about Steve Martin in The Jerk venomous.
I think you are a sick person and hope you take your own life before you take somebody else's.
Or get Saved, come to Jesus. No kiddin that may be your last hope and not a bad one indeed if you can find a church that want vote you out if your Momma was baptized there.
And to Appalled, please come back later, maybe early next week.
May have something more to your liking about Obama; and of course I am delighted you have some friends.
Could you share some with #11; they need professional help.

To quote and old phrase:
"Isn't that like the pot caling the kettle black?"

In other words The Moderator of this board needs to heed his/her own advice and seek professional help for themself-and get rid of their anger and jealousy issues-

How did you come to know Fox in this way to despise him so; personal observation, or just from his stuff on his blog?
Do you live near him? Seems like you have a pretty strong take on him, and you would have to have had some contact with him to dislike him so.

Do any of you think this Alabama football expert may be the person that is leaving the Fox Family countdown daily on this blog.
Do you know anything about her?
Who do you think is menacing this comment line?

Is it this person from Baptistlife.com as the person in question seems to frequent both sites:

Trivia: Years ago, I was at Legion Field in Birmingham the day one of TCU's football players was paralyzed for life in a game against the Crimson Tide. It was a freak accident during a tackle. The University of Alabama established a scholarship fund at TCU in his honor soon thereafter.

I believe the player you are talking about was named Kent Waldrep-karen

The Right Jeremiah Wright is a thorn in the flesh for B. Hussein Obama. and because of this great pain, Alabama will not vote for Obama; and high in the mountains is Osama. Bin Laden wants to talk to "Hillary bin Haden."

Randall Balmer is a friend of mine.
In his 2nd chapter in Thy Kingdom Come he lists Richard Land of the SBC ERLC as a counterfeit Baptist.
I will delete your comment soon cause you are not the Third Revelation--see There Will Be Blood--nor the first or the 2nd.

The last person was Uncle Prentice who blasphemes my Father, his Brother on the weekend my Father would've turned 85.
His half assed reference to Tim Tyson's Blood Done Signed my Name may signal he is slipping into the bottomless Pits of Hell.
And he will not admit it was me who recommended the book to him in the first place.
Pray for Him; and his extended family as they try to figure out what to do with his apparent creeping dementia.
